TECHNICAL DATA SHEET (TDS) & PROCESS GUIDE Standard: JIS SKD11 / DIN 1.2379 / AISI D2

1. Chemical Composition (wt%)

Element C Si Mn Cr Mo V Fe
Specification 1.40–1.60 0.10–0.60 0.20–0.60 11.50–13.00 0.70–1.20 0.20–1.00 Balance

2. Welding Parameters: Laser vs. TIG

⚡ Laser Welding 0.2–0.6 mm

Preheat Temp Room Temp – 100°C
Pulse Power 110–210 A
Shielding Gas Argon ≥99.99% (3–6 L/min)
HAZ Impact Minimal HAZ, ideal for delicate edge repair

🔥 TIG Welding 0.8–2.4 mm

Preheat Temp 350°C – 450°C Mandatory
Welding Current 40–110 A (DCEN)
Shielding Gas Argon ≥99.99% (8–12 L/min)
Post-Heat Slow cooling or 500°C stress relief annealing

💡 Key Repair & Operation Instructions:

  • Extreme Wear Resistance: High carbon-chromium composition forms dense chromium carbides, delivering 56–60 HRC hardness and high wear resistance for cold cutting edges and punches.
  • Preheating Requirement (TIG): SKD11 / D2 has very high hardenability and crack sensitivity. **Preheating to 350°C–450°C is critical** during TIG repair to prevent cold cracking and edge spalling.
